Coronavirus Update

To the GTA Community,

Now that the first coronavirus case has been reported in Solano County, GTA would like to take a moment to review its protocols regarding the coronavirus and other infectious diseases.

As indicated in our earlier messages, regarding the spread of any virus, the best protection is good hygiene – washing (or sanitizing) hands frequently, avoiding touching your eyes and mouth, containing your own sneezes and coughs, and frequently wiping down high-contact surfaces like door handles, keyboards, etc. And while these measures will certainly help control the spread of coronavirus, they will protect against a variety of other diseases, too, including colds and the flu.

Note some students are opting to wear masks, which is OK, though health officials indicate that, unlike smoke masks, masks to prevent virus transmission must be high end (N95 or higher), and they may give students a false sense of security. They are also expensive, getting hard to find, and – as we all recall from the November smoke-storms – a bit of a nuisance.

Note at this time there are no plans to curtail school, but instead we will be taking proactive measures, including frequently wiping down surfaces, and using advisory time to educate kids about good hygiene and preventative measures with our students. We will also be closely following the advice of Solano Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control.

So, to all our students, staff, and community, remember to wash your hands frequently, get plenty of rest, cover your own sneezes and coughs, and to the best of your ability avoid anyone who's sick. We will keep you apprised of any additional developments.

 Thank you, and stay healthy!

 Matt Smith
