Got Gates?

Parents, as part of the new construction at Everest, we have new security fences along Mini Drive that will help keep unauthorized trespassers off the MIT campus. The new fences run from Omega all the way around the corner next to Widenmann Elementary, up to the baseball field. These fences will enhance security and prevent trespassers from using the Everest facility (and Omega) as a short cut, which has been a significant MIT security problem. And while this new addition will significantly improve campus security, students and parents should be aware of the following:
  • There are two pedestrian gates on Mini Drive -- one at Everest and one near Omega. There is a third pedestrian gate next to the Everest bathrooms between Ev-8 and Widenmann (near the corner of the ball field). There are also three car-gates; two on Mini and one next to Ev-8.
  • The Everest gates will open at or before 7:00 a.m. and will close right after the 8:04 bell rings. After school, the gates will open at 3:30 and will close at 5:00. On special occasions, such as Back-to-School Night, the gates will have extended hours.
  • The Ev-8 gate (across from Widenmann) and the Omega gate is for staff only and are not to be used by students.
  • The back gate on Rainier will continue to be open only for morning drop off from 7:00 – 8:05.
  • All other times students will need to be picked up and dropped off on Positive place.

Thank you for your cooperation in adjusting to our new security measures. If you have any questions or comments please let MIT’s Chief Business Officer Dr. Chris Hulett know at .
